"I was the only one who saw her for what she was ... a freak! But for my mother and father, oh no, it was Lily this and Lily that.
They were proud of having a witch in the family!"

FAMILY: Thomas Evans - Muggle. Retired schoolteacher and professional do-gooder. Lily was gifted with her father's sense of civic duty and his unceasing insistence to Treat Others as You'd Like to be Treated. Thomas was easily impressed by Lily's magical talent and frequently showered her in attention. Lily has a tendency to place him on a pedestal and in turn, he indulges her on almost every level. Camilla Evans (née Gardner). - Muggle. Like Lily's father, Camilla was also a schoolteacher and shares her husband's tendencies toward charity and Doing The Right Thing. Lily has always been very close to her mother, almost demanding of her attention as a child. In turn, Camilla was often guilty of spoiling Lily. Petunia Dursley - Muggle. Murky and complicated at best, Lily's relationship with Petunia is one of frequent conflict. They fight often and nastily, but stubbornly insist on remaining close. They both attended each others' weddings and keep in touch when separated. At the end of the day, they love each other, but they don't seem to like each other very much. Vernon Dursley - Muggle. Professional bane of Lily's existence except not really. Lily maintains an opinion of No Opinion regarding Vernon as she finds him to be insufferably boring. She fluctuates between thinking that he is not good enough for her sister and thinking that he is perfect. James Potter - Wizard. Husband. Better/worse half. Lily spent a significant portion of her Hogwarts career thinking that he was pig-headed and overly confident. She stills thinks that, but now she finds it endearing. SEXUALITY: Heterosexual. SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Married to James Potter. CHILDREN:: -- |
Politics |
LOYALTY/ALLIANCE: Order of the Phoenix ROLE IN THE WAR: Lily is a highly skilled potioneer. Potions have always come easy to her, something that set her apart from her schoolmates and, in later years, her peers. She can create some of the most difficult to brew concoctions with little difficulty, although it certainly does require a great deal of effort. She also has a knack for charms and transfiguration. Lily is generally unafraid, willing to take risks, and will be the first one to volunteer to go into danger. While she doesn't have the formal training like that of an auror, she is a capable duelist and can hold her own in a fight. She's less of a follower and more of a leader, but if asked to do something, she can be trusted to get it done. While Lily does have a desire to come out on top, she is a team player and has no problem working with others. She is approachable and always willing to lend an ear if someone needs to talk. As a muggleborn, she is dedicated to the Order's cause. POLITICAL VIEWS: As a muggleborn, Lily believes in equal treatment regardless of blood status. She was lucky enough that her parents responded positively to her talents, leading Lily to believe that Petunia's reaction is a fluke, a character flaw on her sister's part, as opposed to a representation of all muggle beliefs about magic. There is, however, a certain level of subconscious superiority. Lily certainly tells herself and others that she believes in equality for all, regardless of blood status, but there's a little piece of her that thinks that she's better than her family. They can't do what she can do and it's certainly not their fault, but Lily's a witch. Regardless, Lily has a firm hatred of anyone who talks down to her because of her heritage and she certainly won't put up with any bigotry. Her status as a muggleborn is less a sensitive subject than annoyance at being labeled and put into a box is. As an employee for the Society for Tolerance of Vampires, Lily generally sees vampires and other "beings" classified Dark Creatures as people with their own rights. Her knowledge that Remus is a werewolf has caused her to come to terms with werewolves as a whole, a species that she formerly associated with horror movies and scary lessons in Defense Against the Dark Arts. While she isn't silly enough to think that because Remus is kind, that all other werewolves are, she does now base her final judgements on any werewolves she runs into on their personality rather than their condition. Lily tends to have a very black and white view of politics. Those that support Voldemort and blood purity are evil. Those that do not are good. She is not particularly interested in hearing their motivations or reasons. Actions speak louder than words. |
Appearance |
APPEARANCE: Lily has always been considered pretty and she knows it. She is a girl who wears trendy, fashionable outfits and takes great pride in her appearance. She puts a lot of effort into looking like she doesn't. She has long red hair, bright green eyes, and a wide, toothy smile that practically cuts her face in two. She has a thin face, complemented with large, almond shaped eyes and a slightly pointed nose. Her skin is pale with a tendency toward freckling in sunnier months. Standing at 5'7'', she is above average in height, typically standing a few inches above her female peers. Like her sister, she is thin and leggy and although Lily worries that she'll become plumper as she ages, she currently enjoys the luxury of a very fast metabolism. She has a friendly demeanor, an approachable air of someone willing to chat. Her posture is near perfect, but turns to slouching when she is tired. She has a very smiley, happy appearance, although her time as Head Girl, and fights with Petunia, has allowed her to perfect various glares and displeased looks. |
Personality |
| WAND: 10 ¼ inches. Willow. Dragon heartstring. BOGGART: Herself, as a Death Eater. Lily is not particularly afraid of the Dark Arts or Death Eaters, at least not more than she is afraid of other things, but she is afraid of being thought badly of. To become a Death Eater would lose her the respect of her peers. PATRONUS: A doe. LIKES: Fish (as a pet), James' hair, healthy competition, being the best at something, reading, television, The Ramones, The Clash, claiming that she knows how to drive, trying new things, traveling, flower scented perfumes, standing up for things, Winston and Demetrius DISLIKES: Petunia's attitude, being thought poorly of, most insects, unseasonably hot weather, bigots, bullies, heights, things going to waste, liars, STRENGTHS: Potions, charms, driven, loyal, brave, outgoing, generous with her friends, intelligent, reliable, kindhearted WEAKNESSES: Admitting she was wrong, self-involved, black and white view of the world, worries after the opinions of others, high expectations, herbology, flying KNOWN INFORMATION: On the most basic level, Lily is known as the muggleborn wife of James Potter. She has a tendency to make a name for herself wherever she goes. In school, she was Head Girl and a member of the exclusive Slug Club. After graduation, she was hired as an entry level employee within the Society for Tolerance of Vampires and has garnered something of a reputation as a humanitarian and someone who appears to deeply care about her work. Those that talk to her frequently might notice that Lily takes a little too much pride in getting congratulated on her good deeds. She is also a wanted terrorist. DETAILED PERSONALITY: Lily is two-parts well intentioned chivalry and one-part little girl demanding attention. She embodies a lot of what is good about Gryffindor -- loyalty, bravery, and a kind heart -- but she also very much likes to be acknowledged for these traits. Lily is a person who places a lot of her self worth in the hands of others. This isn't to say that she lacks confidence or is a follower, but she is very concerned with what others think of her, especially those that she respects. She is highly confident, a result of her own nature and years of compliments and cooing on behalf of her parents and guardians. Her parents were easily charmed by her magical skills, over the moon about their daughter's abilities, and lavished her with praise. Similarly, her teachers recognized her natural skill set in Potions and Charms, only encouraging her ego with their applause. Consequently, Lily expects the best of herself and does not react well when she performs otherwise. Lily has a very black and white view of the world, splitting most of what she observes into Good or Bad. Bad people do bad things. Good people do good things. She is fairly unforgiving in regards to Bad People and she has a tendency to treat them poorly because, from her point of view, Bad People are Evil and do not deserve to be treated well. As she considers herself to be a Good Person, one of the things that Lily enjoys most is being righteously angry. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and a force to be reckoned with to her enemies. She can be a bit merciless with little regard for feelings toward those that have wronged her. She rarely forgives and hardly ever forgets. She is a person of opinions. Hers and the opinions of others. Ultimately, she considers her own opinions to outrank those of others, but she is still very concerned with what other people think of her. Lily has always been treated like the golden girl by everyone around her. Her parents, her teachers, and even her many of her classmates. To lose that good faith, which has accompanied her for her entire life, would be devastating. As a result, Lily plans a lot of her actions around what others will think. This doesn't necessarily mean that she doesn't believe in the good deeds that she commits, but the clap on the back she knows she'll get as a result is frequently taken into consideration. Lily has a certain fondness for being right and will fight to prove it with everything she's got. It makes admitting that she's wrong all the more painful and she usually avoids it if she can. Lily has a nasty habit of clinging to hopeless causes rather than admit that she made a mistake. One of the easiest ways to get on her bad side is to attempt to order her around. Lily knows that she is a very capable witch, as everyone has told her so for many years, and she will not react well if she feels that she is being patronized or treated as second rate. Lily is brave, a risk taker and a trier of new things. She is not afraid to throw herself into the unknown and the fact that something is dangerous makes it all the more appealing. If something is forbidden? Well, that makes it downright irresistible. She's not entirely impulsive, as she does usually think before she acts, but she doesn't always take the time to consider everything presented to her. Lily plays a bit fast and loose with rules and is known to make excuses for both herself and her friends. She likes standing up for things, like people knowing that she is fighting for something. She adopts causes like they're little, lost orphans. |
History |
CHILDHOOD: Lily grew up in a modest sized house in Cokeworth, England, the second daughter of two schoolteachers. Her family was not wealthy by any means, but they were close-knit and happy. As a little girl, Lily's best friend was her older sister, Petunia. With only two years between them, the girls were inseparable, although opposites in almost every way. Where Petunia was clean and quiet, Lily was messy and loud. Where Petunia was their mother's helper, Lily seemed content to find trouble. Yet, it was Lily who absorbed most of their parents' attention. She was rambunctious, noisy, and had a way of stealing the limelight wherever she went. Her parents had a tendency to be soft on her, charmed by her smiles and sweet nature. Lily could, and often was, very sweet, but she was also very strong-willed. She frequently disobeyed her parents, only to get off with a slap on the wrist. She also had a certain strangeness to her, a habit of attracting unusual phenomena like floating flowers or candles that would ignite on their own. Lily was nine when she met Severus Snape, the first person to tell her that she was a witch. They became friends quick enough, although their relationship was tempered by Petunia's unhappiness. The sisters drifted apart as magic became a source of discomfort and fighting. By the time Lily's Hogwarts letter had arrived, her parents accepted and even were thrilled by Lily's abilities. Petunia, less so. When her own letter to Albus Dumbledore, requesting permission to attend Hogwarts, failed to yield any results Petunia called Lily a freak. She told her that it was good that she was leaving home to be separated from "normal" people. HOGWARTS: Lily was sorted into Gryffindor, a cause of some upset as Severus was sorted into Slytherin. They remained friends, although Lily did not approve of the friends that Severus made, his choices seemingly picked from the more racist members of Slytherin house. As a muggleborn, Lily was exposed to a variety of taunts and comments that she had never come across before. There were a great deal of people at Hogwarts that did not care that she was muggleborn, but there were also a great many who did. The comments upset her, touching upon Petunia's remarks, but Lily did not allow her discomfort to show. Instead, she sought to better herself, to prove her competence and her natural talent. She was a bright girl, a gifted student, and was especially skilled in Potions and Charms. She caught the eye of her Potions professor, Horace Slughorn and became a member of his exclusive Slug Club, an informal collection of his favorite students. As the years passed, Lily's friendship with Severus became shakier and shakier. His insistence upon remaining friends with people that Lily deemed "evil" was becoming increasingly hard to ignore. Lily's friends urged her to forget him, to cut all ties, but Lily couldn't abandon him - and she certainly couldn't admit that she had been wrong about him. Aside from Severus, a near constant presence in Lily's Hogwarts career was that of James Potter. A fellow Gryffindor, James and his friends seemed content to bully Severus into oblivion, causing Lily to often stick up for her friend. James and Lily were frequently at odds with each other, arguing and glaring until fifth year when James seemingly changed tactics and started asking her out. Unimpressed, she rejected him each time. That same year, Lily found herself once again standing up for Severus. James and his best friend, Sirius, had publicly humiliated Severus and when Lily tried to help him, he lashed out, calling her "mudblood." Offended, Lily cut him off completely and ended their friendship. Seventh year was distinguishable for two reasons. First, Lily was made Head Girl, allowing her to see that James, the Head Boy, was not solely the arrogant bully that she knew him as, but also clever, funny, and very brave. Second, and unsurprisingly, Lily and James began dating. They quickly became inseparable as a couple and it wasn't entirely a shock when they announced plans to marry after graduation. POST-HOGWARTS: Lily and James married in a lavish affair in the winter of 1978. Sirius was the best man and Petunia was in attendance with her own husband, a dour man named Vernon who Lily found to be utterly boring. Lily spent a few months bouncing between potential careers before settling on the Society for Tolerance of Vampires. She liked the charitable, humanitarian aspect to it, reminded of the discrimination that she had experienced as a muggleborn. At the same time, Lily, along with her husband and her husband's friends, were recruited by Albus Dumbledore into the Order of the Phoenix, a group dedicated to fighting Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Their membership was a secret for some time, although more recently it has been made public, making Lily and James wanted terrorists. |

FIVE THINGS: Five things you've always wanted to RP out/explore about this character but have never gotten the chance to do before, why you picked this character, things you're most looking forward to playing out with this character, how you think your interpretation stands out, how you’d like for your character to grow over the course of the game, plot ideas, etc. Try to include at least one plot idea for your character. Providing this information helps the mod and other players build plots around your character. • Lily as a flawed person. What we learn of her in the books is taken from the wishes of an orphan and the memories of war survivors. Understandably, there's going to be a halo effect. I'd like to portray Lily as a real human being with flaws. Everyone may have remembered her as "lovely Lily," but there's no way that she was perfect. • I think Lily romanticizes being a member of the Order. She's aware that there are risks, but nothing has really touched her yet. She's got a wealthy husband and her friends. She's young. For all intents and purposes, it's kind of like she's on a lengthy road trip with her friends. And she gets to tell herself that she's ~fighting evil~ like she's a little kid playing pretend. I'm not saying that the Order's cause isn't just or that it's silly, but I think Lily needs to mature a bit and take a look at what she's doing. • Lily + the Marauders. I'd like to expand upon their relationship so it's more than just "Lily is James' wife." She's not baggage or an afterthought just tacked on. She's a person who has a unique relationship with James and each of his friends. • Lily + Petunia. I have never seen Petunia played in any other game, so I'm looking forward to getting to play their relationship out. The way Lily is often portrayed usually makes Petunia this hated character because it's like, "Why do you hate Saint Lily, Petunia? You must be a TERRIBLE PERSON" when it's really not like that at all. • I'd like to work on Lily coming to terms with the fact that she's not perfect and maybe being forced to acknowledge some of her flaws. She has this high opinion of herself and while it's not necessarily a terrible thing to be confident, she does need to be knocked down a few pegs. |
